A vintage set of four Italian cantilever dining chairs in dark brown cowhide and polished chrome-plated tubular steel, produced in Italy during the 1970s. With their sculptural cantilever frames, suspended hide seats and strong material contrast, these Italian modernist dining chairs combine the clean geometry of mid-century design with the warmth and texture of natural cowhide.

The chairs are built around an elegant continuous tubular frame that sweeps from the cantilevered base into the armrests and exposed upper back. Dark brown hair-on cowhide is suspended directly across the structure, creating a soft sling-like profile with gentle movement through the seat and backrest. The polished chrome gives the chairs a precise architectural quality, while the naturally aged hide adds depth, texture and a distinctive patina. Together, the four chairs create a particularly strong visual rhythm around a dining table.

The design belongs to the wider 1970s Italian exploration of tubular-steel cantilever seating, combining the structural clarity associated with earlier Bauhaus furniture with the richer materials and more relaxed silhouettes characteristic of Italian interiors of the period. 

Condition
Good vintage condition with clear signs of age and use consistent with its period. The original cowhide shows an attractive but pronounced patina, including rubbing, areas of hair loss, surface marks, scratches and wear along the seat edges and around several points where the hide wraps around the frame. There are a number of small areas of loss and one seat shows a more noticeable tear / older repair. The backs also show age-related rubbing and marks. The chrome remains bright overall with minor scratches and scuffs.
